Gisborne Lifestyle

Gisborne offers so much to those seeking a change of pace and the lifestyle to go with it.  It is home to a vibrant and progressive community, serviced by a whole range of modern amenities. The first city to see the light each day, Gisbornes natural features include long sunshine hours, an extensive coastline of golden sandy beaches, unspoilt natural bush and beautiful lake and river areas.

Recreational facilities include excellent golf courses, the Tennis Centre, the polo ground and various bowling greens and cricket pitches. The area also has sports stadia, national rugby playing fields and a speedway track. In addition there are two indoor swimming pools, field hockey facilities, a YMCA gymnasium and fitness centres, netball courts and rivers and beaches used by rowers, swimmers and surfers. Not forgetting the Gisborne rowing club with a fantastic following.

Gisbornes public hospital, opened in 1985, is one of the newest in New Zealand. Gisborne is also home to the Chelsea Private Hospital.

Property costs in Gisborne are low relative to other cities and wherever you choose to live, youre never too far from the beach. Gisborne has a wide range of housing types and styles, from colonial homesteads through to modern architecturally designed houses.

The Citys shopping district is a boulevard of wide-lined streets. National chain stores are well represented as well as local stores and boutique retailers. The central shopping district is complemented by smaller shopping villages throughout the district. Weekly farmer's markets are a fixture throughout the year.

Those who enjoy dining out are spoilt for choice with many excellent cafés, restaurants and wineries. Hot summers, fertile soil and reliable weather patterns in Gisborne provide perfect conditions for producing some of the countrys leading wines and produce.

The Citys numerous municipal facilities include excellent libraries, museums and theatres that stage some 40-plus performances every year.
